Profile Gwen says "I am always looking at the changing colours and light on Waiheke and the native trees and flowers as they come into bloom, I want to try and capture these stunning moments forever on my canvases. " Gwen paints from her garden studio in Rocky Bay which is popular with both tourists and locals. She also works to commission often combining a favourite view with a favourite tree or flower for a client. Waiheke
Island artist Gwen Rutter is renowned for her vibrant paintings of island
landscapes and flora. A self-taught artist Gwen initially worked as a
watercolourist, a transition to acrylic painting in recent years has seen
Gwen's art practice flourish as she has used her skills to blend the vibrant
colours of island flora and ocean views. Gwen currently works with a split-vision
format, dividing her canvases to offer landscape views and details of
New Zealand native flowers and trees.
